MIRA MESA – The Christian High Patriots were drawing even at halftime of their season opener against the Mira Mesa but were able to pull away in the second half from the host Mira Mesa Marauders, 30-14.
Christian High senior quarterback Gabe Krug passed a touchdown and rushed for a touchdown in the second half.
Senior Jack St. Fleur had a 22-yard run touchdown run in the first minute of the game as Christian took an 8-0 lead following a conversion run.
Krug scored on a 9-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Christian extended the advantage to 22-8 on a 10-yard TD run by junior Nate Bettis late in the third.
“My biggest contribution was just being there when the coach needed me to go in,” Bettis said.
Krug passed to Hunter Provience for a score with 10:45 left in the game which made the score 28-8.
Mira Mesa tied the game late in the first half on a 9-yard run and ensuing conversion.
