SPRING VALLEY (06-18-2020) – The Schmidt name has been very famous around the Spring Valley area for at least the last five years, not only on the gridiron but also in the classroom.
Quite recently, as a matter of fact, the younger of these two brothers, Logan recently received the honor of CIF San Diego Scholar-Athlete of the Year, one of 22 selected in California.
“Yeah it was definitely something to be proud of,” said Schmidt.
Logan will be joining his brother, Blake Schmidt, at Montana State this fall, where he currently resides, as well.
When asked what was his favorite memory while attending Monte Vista High School, Logan Schmidt said: “My most memorable moment was when we hosted the undefeated Santana Sultans last year. We played our best game, everything was awesome that night.”
The Monarchs defeated Santana, 37-10. It was one of the toughest Santana teams in several years, and were 8-0 before the Monarchs handed the Sultans their first defeat.
Monte Vista also capped off their comeback season with a Grossmont Valley League crown and shutting down their last two league foes with a combined 77-0 advantage.
Logan is also a very humble young man who plays with a lot of heart.
Santana head coach Tim Estes said after last year’s first loss to Monte Vista, “That No. 8 kid, Schmidt, was all over the field making plays all evening, made it tough for our offense to ever get started. “
Schmidt was one of 20 that also received $1,000.00 in scholarship money, along with being the only male scholar-athlete chosen from the San Diego Section of the CIF.
Logan will definitely go on to make some noise but with his actions and humbleness on the field, and with his love of mathematics, he will be majoring in Chemical Engineering.
Rest assured we will hear plenty more from this young man, Logan Schmidt,
“I’m also working on a guide on how to succeed, have fun, and be great on the field and in the classroom, not really my own memoirs, just some guidelines for high school life,” Schmidt said.
“Finally, I just want to thank my teammates, and the great coaches, Coach (Paige) Culver, and Coach (Ron) Hamamoto,” Schmidt concluded.
