SAN DIEGO – West Hills’ Diane Baker took first place in the 173-pound weight class at the Eastlake Queen of the Lake Tournament on Saturday.
“Taking first place at this tournament was an amazing reward for the hard work and dedication my teammates, my coaches, and I put in throughout the year,” Baker said. “My team was able to achieve this thanks to our support for each other, great coaches, and drive to make each other better. Each of my teammates gave it their all this afternoon and I couldn’t be more proud of the effort they put into each match.”
West Hills also had another pair of strong finishes as Chloe Tolentino took third at 118 pounds while Juliet Richter was fourth at 138 pounds.
“This is the largest girls tournament in San Diego and our girls showed up in force,” West Hills head coach Mike Proctor said. “As a coach, I am so proud of the growth and progress our girls have shown since the season started.”
Kaily Smith, of Granite Hills, took first at 103 pounds.
Brianna Schultz, of Steele Canyon, took first at 133 pounds.
Christina Briney, of Steele Canyon, finished fourth at 173 pounds. Baker eliminated Briney in a semifinal match by fall.
Steele Canyon finished fourth at the competition while West Hills finished fifth.
