CHULA VISTA – The El Cajon Valley Braves put together an awesome defensive effort in the fourth quarter to finally overtake host Mar Vista, 38-30, in a non-league game on Friday afternoon.
The Braves outscored the Mariners, 14-3, in the fourth quarter to take the victory.
Senior Vean Gorgees scored 20 points in the contest on 7-of-14 shooting. She made 4-of-7 from beyond the three-point arc and also had five assists in the game.
Junior Fineita Taulanga added nine points, 13 rebounds, and a pair of blocked shots for El Cajon Valley, while freshman Ruth Taulanga added seven points and 10 rebounds for El Cajon Valley.
Senior Tarry Flournoy grabbed 13 rebounds for the Braves, while junior teammate Silvia Aboud hauled down eight boards.
Freshman Aniah Deloatch had four steals and three assists for ECV (7-3), which
MOUNT MIGUEL 57, CLAIREMONT 27 – The Matadors cruised to the victory over the Chieftains on Friday night to improve to 5-1 on the season.
It was the fourth-straight win for Mount Miguel (5-1).
