Knights open season with win over Sultans

SANTEE – The Foothills Christian Knights defeated the Santana Sultans, 64-24, in a non-league basketball game at Santana High on Wednesday night.
The two teams are expected to be playoff contenders in the San Diego Section’s Division III playoffs when the postseason arrives.
For the Knights, they look to return to a section title game, where they fell in the Division IV championship game, 47-45, last season. The Warhawks are also in Division III this season.
Senior ELLIE TURK scored 24 points, including four three-pointers, while added nine assists, and seven steals in her senior season debut.
Last week, Turk signed her letter of intent to play basketball at Point Loma Nazarene University.
Sophomore NATALY BRAVO scored 14 points, including three three-pointers, and five steals for the Knights.
Junior ARANTXA FONSECA added 13 points, including three three-pointers, and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds, to go along with three blocks.
Junior newcomer CAROLINE BURKE added four points, 10 steals and six rebounds for FCHS.
BRIANNA JERIG led the Sultans with 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers, and four steals, while teammate JOEY BARKHEIMER had eight points, including 4-of-5 from the foul line.
BELLA TERRY had a team-high six rebounds for Santana.
Santana’s LAKAKIA AQUININGOC-DAVID had four points and three assists.
