EastCountySports.com staff report
SPRING VALLEY – The Lincoln Hornets used talent and trickery to beat host Monte Vista, 42-7, in a nonleague game here on Friday night.
Although the Hornets finally snapped a scoreless game to take a 12-0 lead on a pair of touchdowns, the Monarchs pulled to within five points in the second quarter when senior running back Isiah Gardner scored on a short touchdown run.
Monte Vista went into the locker room with some confidence, trailing just 12-7.
However, Lincoln scored four unanswered touchdowns in the second half.
Hornet senior wide receiver Keyshawn Smith went over 80 yards receiving with eight receptions and caught two touchdown passes.
Lincoln running back Kenneth Stevenson found the end zone twice.
Benjo O’Brien was the second receiver to have a big night, finishing with 143 yards in receptions and caught one of Chris Davila’s two touchdown passes. He also had eight catches.
Cornerback Ke’shun Ford made the play of the night by grabbing an interception with one hand before landing on his back.
Lincoln had 361 yards passing total on the evening.
