POWAY (6-21-2019) – In most ballgames, San Diego Stars veteran Dallas Seidel can be found hitting third, fourth or fifth in the batting order. But for reasons unknown, the product of Santana High and Sonoma State was discovered at the No. 8 spot for Thursday’s (June 20) Western Baseball Association outing against the Poway Crush.
For Seidel, who entered the day batting exactly .500 for the summer, also discovered it didn’t make a difference, positively or negatively.
Seidel crushed Poway pitching for three more hits, including a double and three RBI, as the Stars waltzed to an 8-4 triumph. A 4-run rally in the second inning jump-started San Diego to lead from almost start-to-finish. The designated hitter raised his average to .515 (17-for-33).
Following a pair of pop outs, Seidel made the adjustment in the batter’s box, lining a 2-run single in the fifth for a 7-3 lead. Two innings later, Seidel reached the fence with a line drive to center field with a run-scoring double, then pushed his average above the .500 plateau with a single in the ninth.
Meanwhile, Poway pitchers helped ignite Stars rallies in the second and fifth, each time recording a combination of three walks and a hit batsman to force in the first run of each rally among the eight pitchers utilized by the Crush.
Conversely, Stars pitchers were in control most of the afternoon.
Starting pitcher Josh Verdon overcame one sub-par inning among his 4-inning stint.
Bailey Roberson fired the next three innings without yielding a run to collect the victory. Roberson was followed by one inning each by Bailey Roberson and Bailey Lewis.
At the plate, along with Seidel, Brady Joslyn batted 2-for-3 after going 3-for-4 in his summer debut against the San Diego Mavericks on Tuesday.
