EL CAJON – Granite Hills pitcher Staci Chambers kept the Highlanders batters off balance as the Eagles prevailed over Helix in a run-rule shortened affair on Friday in the Falcon Fiesta.
Chambers posted her “poorest” outing of the season, “only” tossing a 2-hit shutout in topping the visiting Highlanders in Friday’s (Mar.15) non-league contest.
The junior struck out 7 in the 5-inning, run-rule abbreviated outing for her fourth consecutive shutout. In her three previous starts, she allowed a composite total of two hits, so the Scotties doubled her total.
Highlander shortstop Avery Perez led the game off with a single, but Chambers quickly settled in and did not allow another Helix baserunner until Sophia Ramuno singled in the 5th inning of the game.

The Eagles scored four runs in the first inning, with Sydney Huse (2-3, 2R, RBI) singling a run home and Julia Tyseling drawing a bases-loaded walk to score another.
Chloe Knepp followed with a two-run single.
In the bottom of the 5th, two hits and a pair of errors put the Eagles in position to claim a run-rule victory. Amaya Esparza and Huse opened with consecutive doubles.
Bailey Wallace lined a hit into left center, driving in the 8th run and bringing the contest to its conclusion.
Wallace, Huse and Rylee Omahen also registered two hits among the nine by Granite Hills (5-3).
