Curtis was unstoppable with 10 points in the second quarter. Then she made 5-of-5 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter as second-seeded El Cap held the Centurions to just five points in the final stanza.
The Vaqueros led just 21-19 at halftime behind 15 points from Curtis.
However, Curtis had a pair of three-pointers in the third quarter and sophomore center EMMA DRISKILL had six points in the second half.
Curtis had special praise for junior DEVON BULLOCK, who finished with five points.
“Devon Bullock one-hundred percent was the leader we have been looking to all season and she showed up,” Curtis said of her co-captain. “She was on her game on both sides of the ball.”
El Capitan really started dominating the boards in the second half.
Sophomore KYLIE MEAD also had six points for El Cap.
Interestingly, the Lady Vaqueros will hold the home court advantage in the semifinals against Grossmont Hills League
“We are going to the Grossmont like any other game,” Curtis said. “We are not going to get overwhelmed in the pressure and I think that’s something big we’ve been working on.”
The game ensures that a Grossmont Conference team will be represented in a CIF championship game. The winner will face the survivor between top-seeded El Camino and fifth-seeded Carlsbad.
