CHULA VISTA – Eighth-seeded El Capitan had to hit the road to meet ninth-seeded Citrus League co-champion Victory Christian Academy on Tuesday night, but the Vaqueros looked much the best in taking a 74-51 win over the Knights in a game played at Hilltop High
El Capitan (15-13) got 24 points from junior guard JAKE PFITZNER and 22 points from senior center RANDY TUCKER in the win
“The Offense was clicking all night with good passing and unselfish play versus their zone,” El Capitan head coach JASON CAVAZOS said.
After leading 22-13 after one quarter, another huge quarter gave El Capitan a 43-27 lead going into halftime.
Pfitzner scored 20 points in the first half, while Tucker did most of his damage in the second half, scoring 16 points after intermission.
“We need to continue to play good defense,” Pfitzner said. “Our offense has been working really well, now we just need to keep executing on the defensive side of the ball.”
NATHAN SCHUNK added eight points for El Cap, while teammates JAQORI HARRIS and NICK HODGE both came home with seven points.
The Vaqueros have to be brimming with confidence heading into Saturday’s quarterfinal road game against top-seeded Southwest (San Diego) at 7.
“We’re excited to play the No. 1 seed,” Cavazos said.
