FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN 68, ORANGE LUTHERAN 57
SANTA ANA — In a week in which the top four teams in the local media poll all lost one game, fifth-ranked Foothills Christian went 4-0 and only added to their big-time resume with a 68-57 win over state 15th-ranked Orange Lutheran at the Nike Extravaganza at Mater Dei High on Saturday.
Turnovers played a large part for OLu in the regionally televised contest.
Orange Lutheran (19-7) committed 18 turnovers to Foothill Christian’s four.
The Knights (16-5) scored 25 points off of those turnovers.
Yassine Gharram and Jaren Nafarette had 12 points each.
OLu star Makur Maker, a 6-11 junior, led the way with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Senior guard Isaiah Pope added 18 points for the Lancers.
In addition to the win over Orange Lutheran, the Knights, which came into the week ranked 95th in the state, defeated state 110th ranked Alemany to start the week.
And FCHS won its two league contests this week, including over section eighth-ranked Parker.
Only Saints seem untouchable at the top right now, as their setback this week was to state 54th-ranked JSerra.
Foothills Christian led Saturday’s game 38-27 at halftime.
EASTLAKE 49, MOUNT MIGUEL 47 – The Titans upset the still-stinging Matadors, who were reeling from what happened less than 24 hours earlier.
Mount Miguel was stunned on Friday night by top league contender Helix, 53-51, on a buzzer-beater shot.
MARQUISE EDWARDS had 16 points for Mount Miguel, while teammate LAWRENCE GRAY added 14 points in the loss against Eastlake (7-15).
