2019 COMMUNITY COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
East County Sports staff report
PALM DESERT (2-23-2019) – The path to the postseason is not on the horizon for the College of the Desert women’s basketball team. For the Roadrunners, instead, the light at the end of the tunnel might be a freight train.
Over the past decade, four different Pacific Coast Athletic Conference schools have posted a winless record for the entire season (not just conference play). College of the Desert is on pace to become the fifth school to reach the feat.
On Wednesday (Jan. 22), the Roadrunners dropped their 17th straight contest, falling to visiting MiraCosta, 60-35.
The Spartans’ Julia Iman was one of seven MiraCosta players to score in the first quarter when she tallied all of her 7 points to lead the Spartans to an early 23-5 advantage.
Chynna Cochran led MiraCosta (12-5 overall, 1-1 PCAC) with 14 points and 7 steals, while
For College of the Desert (0-17, 0-2 PCAC), Destiny Frazier came off the bench to register game-highs of 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Palomar 91, San Bernardino Valley 34: The state-ranked Comets made it a sweep for North County schools after also posting a road triumph over the Wolverines.
The top four leading scorers for Palomar (16=5 overall, 2-0 PCAC) — Keiara Barton (16 points) and Clarissa Taite (13), Sara Ahmadpour (12) and Dee Dee Valenzuela (12) — all came off the bench to score in double figures. For SBVC (4-12, 0-1 PCAC), Emani McMeans a team-best 15 points.
Grossmont 40, San Diego Mesa 36: The visiting Griffins took a 5-point lead after the first period, then hung on to win. Grossmont (4-12 overall, 2-0 PCAC) has now won three straight following a 1-12 start.
No game report by Mesa (4-13, 0-2 PCAC).
Southwestern 62, Imperial Valley 56: The Lady Arabs’ stay in first place lasted just one game following a narrow loss to the Jaguars.
No game report by host Southwestern (10-9 overall, 1-0 PCC). IVC fell to 9-10 (1-1 PCAC).
Mt. San Jacinto 78, San Diego City 36: The host Eagles (17-6 overall) raced to an easy win over the Knights (8-11) in this non-conference ballgame,
