SPRING VALLEY – The Steele Canyon Cougars were hot from the field in the first half against the West Hills Wolf Pack on Friday n
The Cougars made six three-pointers in the first two periods and used a 24-8 second-quarter advantage to knock off visiting West Hills, 74-58, in a Grossmont Hills League contest.
The teams played a thrilling first-quarter, as the Cougars got out to a 17-9 lead only to see the Pack come back to within 21-19 by the end of the period.
The Cougars shooting was on target in the first half, especially from beyond the arc. They continued to shoot well in the second half.
Junior ALTON HAMISH, sophomore JOEY CLEAVES,
Hamish made three three-pointers, while Childs had a pair of treys in the opening 16 minutes.
Steele Canyon also got offensive contributions from T-MAX NYUMAH and ANTOINE WALKER to spur the Cougars to a double-digit lead in the second quarter.
Sophomore KYLE DOBYNS led West Hills with 18 points, while junior JAYDEN MORENO added 11 points and senior MICHAEL TOTAH contributed 10 points.
Steele Canyon may have had a slow start to the season but they could get right back into the thick of things in the league chase when it hosts Helix on Tuesday at 6.
West Hills (11-7, 0-1 GHL), meanwhile, has an equally big home date with Mount Miguel on Tuesday at 6.
