CHULA VISTA (1-11-2019) – The Bonita Vista girls basketball team is no stranger to a winning tradition, and after this last triumph over Olympian, 59-38, on Friday, the Barons are off to a comfortable start out of the gate with two league wins in a row, atop the Metro League and at No. 17, for now, in the SDS-CIF Division I rankings.
Olympian (8-8, 2-0 Metro League) controlled a majority of the first quarter, finishing 18-11, heading into the second quarter.
However, the host Barons started heating up in the second quarter of play with a couple of steals, key rebounds and would tie it up at the halfway point, 27-all.
“We started off shaky,” said Bonita Vista head coach Tristan Lamb. “We made adjustments and the girls really stepped up and made it work.”
The defense really stepped up in the third quarter, as STERLING EDWARDS with a key steal in the third, outscoring them, 12-4
Not only in the third, but also in the final quarter, the Barons outscored Olympian, 20-7, for a total margin of 32-11 in the second half.
There is always a different big playmaker in every game, and tonight belonged to Edwards, who finished with 12 points, five steals, and four rebounds.
The Barons will travel across town to face the Otay Ranch Mustangs (13-5,0-2), for a league game on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 6 p.m.
This will be the third league contest for the Barons to try and win their third in-a-row.
