CHULA VISTA – The Foothills Christian Knights improved to 5-0 against fellow East County competition this season with a 42-34 win over Helix at the Bonita Vista Gold Coast Tournament on Saturday.
The Knights now own victories this season over Monte Vista, Santana, Granite Hills, Liberty Charter and the Highlanders.
Foothills will look to make 6-0 against local clubs when it faces Steele Canyon on Friday in its next game.
In the win against the Scotties, junior Ellie Turk had 20 points, five assists, three blocks,
“Helix played hard and made us work for it,” Foothills Christian coach Joey Turk said. “We will take it.”
Sophomore Christie Sarkis had four points and five rebounds.
“Helix is a very aggressive team,” said Turk, who buried three three-pointers. “They fought hard. They made it difficult to score but we started getting in rhythm towards the end.”
WEST HILLS 51, SAN DIMAS 49 – The host Wolf Pack upset the Saints in the finale at the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic FIBA Division for their second win of the season.
CANYON SPRINGS 55, MOUNT MIGUEL 50 – The Cougars, of Moreno Valley, stunned the county’s second-ranked team in the WNBA Division of the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic.
Mount Miguel fell to 12-4.
MIRA COSTA 41, EL CAPITAN 33 – The Mustangs knocked off the Vaqueros in the championship game of the NAIA Division of the SoCal Prep Holiday Classic at Del Norte High School.
The 8 a.m. start may have been a bit early, as El Cap trailed 26-10 at halftime.
The Vaqueros still trailed by 14 entering the fourth quarter.
OUR LADY OF PEACE 46, GROSSMONT 43 – At the Bonita Vista Gold Crown Holiday Tip-Off, the Pilots edged the 12th-ranked Foothillers in an upset to improve to 11-4.
Grossmont (10-3) will host Valhalla on Wednesday at 6.
GOLDEN VALLEY (Merced) 44, VALHALLA 31 – The host Lady Norsemen fell to the team from Merced in the Prep Division of the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic.
GODINEZ 59, GRANITE HILLS 7 – The Eagles fell to the visitors from Santa Ana in a SoCal Holiday Prep Classic Prep Division consolation game at Valhalla.
