2018 SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN COLLEGE HAWKS MEN’S BASKETBALL
East County Sports staff report
MERCED (12-19-2018) – On a cold evening in the Central Valley, cold shooting abounded, but San Diego Christian College converted just a few more shots to take a 66-59 decision over host UC Merced in Tuesday’s (Dec. 18) non-conference game at Hostetler Court.
The Hawks (4-5) utilized a huge 16-7 run to mount a 7-point halftime lead, extending the margin to as many as 17 points before coasting at the end, never truly threatened by the Bobcats (6-5), which are members of NAIA rival California Pacific Conference.
Coming off his Golden State Athletic Conference player of the week citation, San Diego Christian senior guard Derek Novsek again led the way with 16 points in handing Merced its third straight loss.
Jared Nyivih added 11 points, Hayden Fredrick posted 9 points and 7 rebounds, while and Richard Wright was next with 10 points as he came off the bench shooting 5-of-6 from the field.
San Diego Christian next plays at The Master’s University Tournament in Santa Clarita. The Hawks play University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Dec. 28 at 4 p.m. before playing the University of Antelope Valley on Dec. 29 at 5 p.m.
