EL CAJON (12-9-2018) — Henriette Gahmig hit the game’s opening shot just 8 seconds into Saturday’s (Dec. 8) Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball game. But the Hawks 3-0 lead would be short-lived, as the 22nd-ranked The Master’s College raced to an easy 67-28 win at Grossmont College.
Following Gahmig’s bucket, the visiting Mustangs finished the first quarter on a 21-2 run, moving their overall record to 7-3 (3-1 GSAC). The Hawks fell to 6-4 (0-4 GSAC).
Hannah Myers grabbed the opening tipoff and found Gahmig alone for the triple. The Master’s answered with 14 straight points, eventually holding the Hawks to six points in the half, taking a 41-6 lead to the halftime break. SDCC would fair better in the second half. The Hawks outscored the Mustangs 14-12 in the fourth quarter.
For the Hawks, Hannah Myers finished with a team-high eight points. Shayleen Toehe was next with seven.
The Hawks will take a break for finals before hitting the road to Gilbert, Ariz., for games on Dec. 19-21 against No. 18 Rocky Mountain College, No. 13 University of Providence, and Montana State-Northern.
