FULLERTON (12-7-2018) – San Diego Christian College came within a bucket of upsetting a national contender, but fell short to host Hope International University, 72-70, in the Golden State Athletic Conference opener for both clubs on Thursday (Dec. 6).
The Hawks tied the contest at 68-all with 1:19 remaining, but the Royals, which received votes in this week’s NAIA national men’s basketball
Derek Novsek led with 17 points for San Diego Christian (2-5 overall, 0-1 GSAC), while Hayden Fredrick added 13 and Nick Crankshaw had 11.
The Royals (8-2, 1-0 GSAC) were tied or trailed for the first eight minutes of the second half, taking the lead late before the Hawks tied the contest in the final two minutes.
The Hawks did get a chance to win in the final seconds, but a 3-point shot by Novsek tipped off the rim.
Next for San Diego Christian will be its conference home
