2018 COMMUNITY COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
MiraCosta College traveled to south Los Angeles County and ruined the home opener of Compton College, downing the Spartans, 73-45, at Tartar Gymnasium.
Chynna Cochran (Escondido Adventist) fueled the Spartans offense with 23 points, equaling her second-best effort of the season. MiraCosta (-4) also forced 37 turnovers by winless Compton (0-7), featuring 7 steals by Julia Iman.
For Compton, Nia Ingram scored a team-best 17 points, while freshman Andranar Powns, the school’s November Athlete of the Month, added 10 points and 5 rebounds.
Copper Mountain 60, San Diego Mesa 54: CMC came south to take a road win Wednesday (Dec. 5) against the Olympians after overcoming a 13-point halftime deficit.
Mesa (3-5) once held a 16-point lead and took a 37-24 advantage at the intermission, but Copper Mountain (3-3) erupted to take the third quarter by a 22-4 margin to claim a lead they would never give up.
Freshman center Chezerae Bogan-Osbey (29 Palms) led the Cacti with 18 points and 9 rebounds, while sophomore guard Celeste Reyes (Yucca Valley) added 15 points.
For Mesa, center Yusra Gharram registered 22 points and 18 rebounds, Celeste Reyes added 15 points, and Samantha LeMay-Zambrano had 12 points and 9 boards.
