Friday’s games
HELIX 63. CHRISTIAN 54 – Helix junior KEISHON TRICE made a splash with 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Highlanders knocked off the Patriots in a mild upset at the Montgomery Tip-Off Classic.
The Patriots (0-2) went cold late, as Helix went regained the lead of a close affair throughout, 55-51, with 3:36 remaining.
At the end of three, Christian led 48-46, as Christian’s pressure was effective late in the period.
Helix led at halftime, 30-29, as Holmes hit a running bank shot just before the buzzer.
Holmes scored nine of his 17 points in the first half.
Helix junior JAYDN JAMES started hot in the third quarter and scored seven of his nine points in the second half.
Helix’s SAMMY STEWART had a strong second half for the Highlanders, finishing with eight points for the game.
Patriots’ senior star JACKSON LARSON scored 26 points, but was 7-for-20 from the field and 11-of-18 from the foul stripe.
Christian received a strong performance from junior point guard MILES WILLIAMS, who scored nine of his 10 points in the first half.
VINNIE SIGNORELLI added eight points for the Pats.
Christian led 12-8 with 2:11 left in the first behind Larsen and Williams’ 10 points combined.
EL CAJON VALLEY 57, HIGH TECH SAN DIEGO 56 – The Braves picked up the home victory to even their mark at 1-1.
The Braves will host the Chula Vista Spartans in a non-league game, on Tuesday, Nov. 20.

CHRISTIAN 69, LA JOLLA 58 – The Patriots knocked off the Vikings at the San Diego Tip-Off Classic at Montgomery High to pick up their first win of the season.
Christian jumped out to a 17-12 lead after one quarter and led 39-31 at intermission.
Christian senior JACKSON LARSON was named to the all-tournament team
GROSSMONT 66, FALLBROOK 34 – The Foothillers had three players score in double figures as they nearly doubled up the host Warriors in the season-opener.
The Foothillers host Monte Vista on Tuesday.
MONTGOMERY 76, HELIX 61 – The Aztecs knocked off the Highlanders in a matchup of top 20 teams at the San Diego Tip-Off Classic at Montgomery High.
KEISHON TRICE and KAI JESSIE both had a team-high 13 points for Helix.
Jessie scored all of his points in the second half, after Helix trailed at halftime, 36-30.
SAMMY STEWART added 11 points, while JADYN JAMES contributed 10 for the Scotties, including a pair of three-pointers.
The Highlanders did a nice job at the foul line, going 17-for-21.
Seniog star guar Kyle Paranda led Montgomery with 25 points.
UNIVERSITY CITY 42, EL CAPITAN 31 – RANDY TUCKER led the Vaqueros with 10 points in a Grossmont Tournament game.
WESTVIEW 77, MONTE VISTA 37 – DERRICK WILEY had 10 points for Monte Vista.

OLYMPIAN 66, STEELE CANYON 57 – The Cougars dropped a tournament game to the Eagles in the season opener.
