LAKESIDE – The El Capitan girls volleyball team opened the 2018 San Diego CIF Division II playoffs with a four-game win over visiting Vista High Wednesday night.
The Vaqueros, seeded second, eliminated the 15th-seeded Panthers, 25-16, 21-25, 25-17, 25-23.
Junior outside hitter STEPHANIE ADAMS crushed down 30 kills and also had 21 digs.
AUDREY TUCKER, RYLEE HARDWICK, TAYLOR NORTH, ELLY SCHRAM also led El Capitan (26-11), which will host Grossmont in the second round.
GROSSMONT def. BRAWLEY – The Foothillers were sent out on the road to face league champion Brawley, but Grossmont proved to be the better team with the road win in a Division II first-round match.
The teams split the first two games, then Grossmont won game three.
Grossmont, the seven-seed, will face second-seeded El Capitan on Saturday at 5 p.m.

SANTANA def. PALO VERDE VALEY – Santana (17-8) knocked off visiting Palo Verde Valley in the first round of the San Diego CIF Division II playoffs on Wednesday night in Santee.
SYDNEY COOK had five kills for Santana, while teammate CARLY ELLIOTT had three blocks.
Other Sultans contributing to the win included MAKENNA BLACKBURN, BETHANNE SCHAD, SHEA BLACKBURN, SOFIA RODRIQUEZ, BROOKE BOYCE, and MADISON SCHWENDINGER
Santana will play West Shores (22-3), the No. 3 seed, on Saturday at 5 p.m.
VALHALLA def. MISSION VISTA – The sixth-seeded Lady Norsemen opened the postseason with a three-game home sweep.
Senior NINA FOLZ powered home 11 kills, while senior teamamte HUNTER FORD added eight winners and three blocks.
Junior ELLIE VALDEZ led Valhalla (16-10) with 26 kills, while sophomore AUBREY WOODS and freshman WHITNEY HAUSEUR shared the assists duties with 24 apiece.
Valhalla will face third-seeded Classical Academy in the second round. Steele Canyon (12-20) lost to Classic Academy at Orange Glan in three games.
MONTE VISTA def. DEL LAGO ACADEMY – The Monarchs won their first-round playoff matchup in the Division V playoffs over visiting Del Lago Academy in four games.
Monte Vista (18-15) won the first two games before the Firebirds captured the third game.
Fifth-seeded Monte Vista will advance to face fourth-seeded San Ysidro on the road on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Cougars had a bye into the second round.
