EL CAJON – Rios Canyon All-Star ANGELO GOMEZ hit a walk-off grand slam home run to lift his team to an 8-5 victory over El Cajon Western in a Little League Baseball District 41 11-12 All-Star game at El Cajon National Little League on Saturday.
The contest was the second of the day in Pool B of the district tournament.
JACK GARCIA and ALEXANDER NICHOLAS hit back-to-back solo home runs to left in the fourth inning to give El Cajon Western a 2-0 lead.
Earlier, Alpine American’s KADE GAIER, who helped his league team to the District 41 Tournament of Champions title, hit a towering three-run home run and struck out 13 batters in an 8-0 victory over host ECN.
The teams in Pool B will be back in action on Monday evening as El Cajon National hosts Rios Canyon at 6.
Meanwhile, Alpine and ECW will meet over at Fletcher Hills LL at 7 on Tuesday.
In Pool A play, host Cajon de Oro shutout Lakeside American, 8-0, while West Hills Little League shutout Mt. Empire Little League, 13-0, also at CDO.
Pool A will continue with one game per night starting Monday through Thursday at 6:30 at CDO.
In the Pool C opener, Rancho San Diego defeated host Fletcher Hills, 7-1. RSD will face Santana National in the next Pool C game on Monday at 7 at Fletcher Hills LL.
In a District 41 8-10 All-Stars contest, Rancho San Diego defeated Fletcher Hills, 13-7, on Saturday.
Other 8-10 scores were: Jamul LL 5, Santee Pioneer 4; Lakeside American 14, CDO 0 (4 inn.); West Hills LL 21, Singing Hills 1.
DISTRICT 33
San Carlos Little League won its Little League District 33 11-12 All-Stars opener, 11-0, over Mid-City on Saturday.
ZACH MORALES had a two-run home run, a two-run double and another RBI-double for SCLL, while teammate EDDIE GOMEZ pitched a complete game.
San Carlos will face Chollas Lake on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Serra Mesa LL.
In other District 33 11-12 all-star games on Saturday, Allied Gardens defeated La Mesa National, 6-5, despite a game-tying two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning by NATE FLORES of LMN.
Meanwhile, Mission Trails downed Lake Murray, 6-2.
DISTRICT 66
District 66 completed pool play in the Little League Baseball 11-12 All-Stars Tournament on Saturday.
Valley de Oro Little League swept through pool play with a 3-0 mark following an 8-2 win over Spring Valley on Saturday.
Neighborhood rivals Spring Valley and Lemon Grove squared off on Tuesday as visiting LGLL came away with the 3-2 win, as GABRIEL CELAYA cracked a two-run home run in the fifth inning to decide it.
