CIF DIVISION V CHAMPIONSHIP
at UC SAN DIEGO
#1 LIBERTY CHARTER 15, #2 GUAJOME PARK 7
Garnering a measure of revenge from the night before when they lost 4-1 in the winner’s bracket semi-finals the Lions flipped the switch on the Frogs with a 9 hit attack.
The Lions took an early 1-0 lead on a Faith Via sacrifice fly that scored Stephanie Uribe who tripled to right field.
However, in the bottom of the first inning, the Guajome Park Frogs (20-7) would push across a couple of runs to take a 2-1 lead.
Once again though the Lions retook the lead as Isabella Guerrero roped a triple to score Via and Guerrero would come into score on an error which gave Liberty Charter (19-5) a 3-2 lead.
It was on from there as the Lions had their way as they pushed across runs in every inning as they took advantage of their opportunities which included nine errors by the Frogs.
The big blow by the Lions came in the top of the fourth inning when Uribe smashed a bases-clearing double that scored Brianna Navarro, Mia Silva and Sarah Johnston to make it 8-2.
Despite the partial comeback by the Frogs in the bottom of the fifth when they pushed across three runs to pull within 10-5 the Lions were able to keep Guajome Park at bay.
Stephanie Uribe on the day went 4 for 5 including a double, a triple and also scored 3 runs along with driving in 3 runs. She also garnered the victory as she went 7 innings for the complete game victory giving up 7 runs on 8 hits while walking 4 and striking out 3.

The other big day for the Lions came courtesy of Katie Peet who went 2 for 4 which included a couple RBIs.
With the win, the Lions celebrated their first ever CIF Softball Championship in the school’s history as it was also their first-ever appearance in the big game as well.
