A big second inning in which the Vaqueros pushed across eleven runs to extend their lead to 14-0 really carried the momentum the rest of the way.
For the Vaqueros they got things rolling in the top of the first inning when Alexa Williams (3-4, 5 RBI) drove in Katie Collier (3-6, 4R, RBI) and Allyson Von Yokes (4-6, 2R, 4 RBI, 2B) ripped a double that scored both Hannah Davis (4-5, 4R, 5 RBI) and Brandy Taylor (3R). El Capitan would round out their scoring as Von Yokes came into score on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.
The bats for El Capitan really came alive in the top of the fifth starting with a one-out solo home run by Madison Michalek-Rosales (5-5, 5R, 3 RBI, HR), a couple batters later Davis singled to score Collier to make it 6-0, Williams walked, Taylor into run and Von Yokes singled to score Davis making it 7-0. A few batters later Taylor North (1-3, 2R, 3 RBI, 3B) would rip a triple that scored Katy Hicks (1-1, R, RBI), Olivia Martinez (3R, RBI) and Brooklyn Fukushima (R, RBI) which extended the lead to 12-0. El Capitan pushed across three more runs to make it 15-0.
Mount Miguel scored their first run of the day on a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Vaqueros offensively would score seven more runs over the fourth and fifth innings and on the day tally 23 hits in their decisive victory.
For the Vaqueros, Williams tossed 5 innings for the victory while giving up 2 runs both earned on 3 hits while walking 2 and striking out 8.
HELIX 12, MONTE VISTA 1 (4 1/2 INNINGS)
The Highlanders didn’t waste any time against the Monarchs as they pounced in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead. Starting things off for the Highlanders Avery Perez roped a double and came around to score on another double by Alofa Collins (2-3, 2R, 2B) who came into score on a single by Erin Brown (2-4, 2R, 2 RBI). They added another run in the bottom of the second on a single by Camryn Jonolonis (2-3, R, 4 RBI, HR) that scored Brown after she stole second base.
Helix would push their lead to 5-0 in the top of the third inning as Bella Bordine (2-2, R) laced a single that scored Laurali Patane (2-3, 2 RBI) followed by a single from Nicole Hernandez (1-3, RBI) that scored Kasey Castro.
The contest went out of reach by the Highlanders in the bottom of the fourth on a three-run blast by Jonolonis for her first career varsity home run which led to Helix pushing across four more runs in the inning.
For the Highlanders, Patane garnered the victory as she threw a complete game giving up one run and striking out six on the day.
