MONTE VISTA TOURNAMENT
LAKESIDE (3-7-18) – In a contest in which 17 hits were combined by both teams the La Jolla Country Day Torreys and the El Capitan Vaqueros ended up in a 5-5 tie.
The Torreys in the top of the first inning struck first as they were able to push a run across to take an early 1-0 lead.
However the Vaqueros with two outs were able to erase the one run deficit as Hannah Davis (1-3, R, RBI) started things with a walk, Alexa Williams (1-4, R) singled advancing Davis to second, Bailey Olaveson (3-5, R, RBI, 2B) drove in Davis with a single to tie the score 1-1 and Katie Collier hit a ball that was misplayed that allowed Williams to score and give El Capitan a 2-1 lead.
The Vaqueros in the bottom of the second looked for more with one out and Kylie Mead coming to the plate. She was able to draw the one out walk, Madison-Michalek-Rosales (RUN) into run, she steals second base and then proceeded to steal third, Allyson Von Yokes (2-5, R, RBI) singles scoring Rosales to make it 3-1, Von Yokes advanced to second on a passed ball and would come into score on a Davis single pushing the lead to 4-1.
The Torreys would fight back in the top of the third inning thanks to a triple and a single to pull within 4-3. Both teams would have opportunities over the next couple of innings but wouldn’t take advantage.
However, in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Vaqueros thanks to a leadoff double by Olaveson regained the momentum. The next batter would be Kim Garcia coming into bat for Collier, however, she would be called out on strikes but the Torrey catcher would drop the third strike allowing for Garcia to run to first where she would be thrown out but Olaveson would find her way to third base. She would find her way home to make it 5-3.
La Jolla Country Day wouldn’t go away and in the top of the seventh inning with one out received back-to-back singles, and with two outs a single scored both runners to tie the game at 5-5.
This would be where it ended as the Vaqueros couldn’t do anything besides a single by Olaveson.
EL CENTRO (3-7-18) – It was a long bus ride down to the dessert for the Christian Patriots and unfortunately it would be a long ride back home as they dropped a 4-3 decision.
Things started in the bottom of the first as the Eagles thanks to multiple base hits were able to push across four runs to lead 4-0.
However, the Patriots got on the board in the top of the second when Shannon McMahon (2-3, R, RBI, 2B, HR) clubbed a solo blast to make it 4-1. They would inch closer to the Eagles in the top of the third inning when with one out Silent Rain Espinoza (2-3, R, 2 2B) roped a double, she would score on a single by Audrey Shebloski (1-3, R, RBI) to cut the deficit in half 4-2, she would also come into score pulling the Patriots within a run at 4-3.
Christian would come so ever close to tying things up in the top of the fifth with two outs when Espinoza hammered a shot that came within inches of going out but instead hit the top of the fence for a double. Unfortunately, she would be stranded at second.
Another opportunity arose for the Patriots in the top of the seventh inning with one down, Shannon McMahon came up and roped a double. Again the Patriots couldn’t get the timely hit and the next two batters would be retired to end the game.
