LA JOLLA (3-1-18) – Slow start for the Vaqueros in their first game of the season against the Vikings on the road but their bats finally picked up as they pushed across a run in the top of the fifth inning.
With one out Hannah Davis (1-4, R, 2B) smashed a double and would score a couple batters later as Bailey Olaveson (1-4, R, RBI, 2B) roped another double to center to make it 1-0.
The Vaqueros would go on to add four more runs in the top of the sixth to extend their lead 5-0.
Madisyn Weir (1-3, R, RBI) would single to center that scored Katie Collier (1-2, R) who led the inning off with a walk and Kim Garcia (1-4, R) advanced to second base. She proceeded to advance to third on a passed ball as did Weir who advanced to second, Allyson Von Yokes (2-4, R, 2 RBI, 2B) roped a double that scored both Garcia and Weir.
A couple batters later Alexa Williams (2-4, RBI, 2 2B) doubled in Von Yokes.
La Jolla cut into the El Capitan lead with a couple runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-2.
However, the Vaqueros answered with another run in the top of the seventh to push the lead to 6-2.
Alexa Williams in the circle did the rest and preserved the four-run victory for the Vaqueros.
On the day Williams tossed a complete game victory in which she gave up 2 runs on 5 hits, walked 1 and fanned 8 on the day.
