EL CAJON – What was expected to happen in the Grossmont Valley League going into the last day of the season did happen, and as a result, three teams will share the league title in 2018.
Santana and Valhalla both won on Thursday to create a three-way deadlock with Monte Vista, as the teams finished with a 5-1-2 record.
VALHALLA 5, MOUNT MIGUEL 0 – The Norsemen claimed their league champions patch with a shutout on the road.
CRAWFORD 4, MONTE VISTA 2 – The Monarchs had already secured at least a share of the title following a tie with Santana, as they took to the pitch for a non-league game on Thursday.
HELIX 4, GROSSMONT 4 – The Helix Highlanders and Grossmont Foothillers combined for eight goals on Thursday afternoon, as the 4-all draw was enough to secure the Grossmont Hills League championship for the Scotties.
The Foothillers led 2-1 at halftime, but Helix earned the tie and finished league play undefeated at 5-0-5.
GRANITE HILLS 3, WEST HILLS 2 – The Eagles won their last two games to claim second place in the Grossmont Hills League.
EL CAJON VALLEY 2, STEELE CANYON 1 – The Braves led 1-0 at halftime and went on to win their second league game of the season.
FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN 1, ARMY-NAVY 0 – The two teams shared the Ocean League championship after Foothills Christian won with a shutout at home.
Both teams finished 5-1 in league play. FCHS improved to 9-8-1.
MOUNTAIN EMPIRE 9, JULIAN 2 – Senior RICHARD ZUNIGA had three goals, while teammate DAVID PEREZ CORONA added a pair of scores for Mountain Empire, which will finish in second place in the Citrus League.
