SANTEE (2-13- 2018) – A league win is always a triumph, a win period heading toward the playoffs is always a great confidence booster.
The last time these two squads faced off was approximately two weeks ago at Valhalla, as the Wolf Pack clawed their way to a victory, defeating the Norsemen at their place by a narrow margin, 54-48.
The Norsemen came into tonight’s contest with a record of 6-20 (0-8 Grossmont Hills League), however, their performance in the first half did not match their record.
In the end, West Hills walked of the court with a convincing 73- 53 defeat of the Norsemen, however.
Valhalla came out swinging as at the end of the first quarter as it was a close score of 17-11, West Hills.
The visiting Norsemen continued to keep pace pretty well with one of the top scoring offenses in the league, with the score at intermission 32-23, Wolf Pack.
Leading scorer, senior RAMZI SULTAN was the secret weapon for the Norsemen, leading the charge with 13 points in the first half including a three-pointer.
As West Hills hit the floor for the second half of play, defense became a priority.
It was discussed by the Wolf Pack coaching staff not only stronger defense, but to limit the shooting ability of the leading scorer for the Norsemen, Sultan.
The strategy discussed was executed beautifully as the Wolf ack limited the Norsemen as a team to only nine points in the third quarter, and the Wolf Pack scored 15, led by senior CAM BARRY with 5, including a successful three-point shot.
The Wolf Pack now led 47-32 at the end of the third quarter of play.
The concluding quarter would see the most points scored from both squads for a combined 47, with West Hills scoring 26 and Valhalla 21.
Valhalla dropped another heartbreaker, leaving their record at 6-21 (0-9 GHL), and will take on the red-hot Steele Canyon (13-7, 6-3 GHL) for the Norsemen season finale at Valhalla on Friday 7:00 pm.
The West Hills Wolf Pack (15-9, 5-4 GHL) will battle the Helix Highlanders (18-9, 7-2 GHL) at West Hills on Friday at 7:00 pm, in what should be a big one, with the winner receiving a nice boost heading into the playoffs.
West Hills senior Barry had 35 total points, including a pair of three-pointers, while CADE RAYLEY had 9 Points, including 3-pointers.
Sultan had 19 points, while Valhalla senior TY SCHIMKE had 18 points, including a pair of treys.
