STEELE CANYON 3, GROSSMONT 2 – Steele Canyon got goals from senior LAUREN FARRIS and juniors OLIVIA ZELDON and ASHLEY HERNDON to win a dramatic fashion at home to cap a wild second half.
Steele Canyon senior ELLE HASTINGS assisted on two of the scores.
After a scoreless first half, the Foothills scored early in the second half.
Farris tied the game just about a minute later on a goal by Farris on an assist from Herndon. Farris drilled a shot over the goalkeeper.
Ten minutes later, Herndon scored on a breakaway following a 40-yard pass across the field from Hastings.
Grossmont tied the game in the 68th minute.
With eight minutes remaining in the game, Zeldon drilled a shot into the back of the goal on a pass from Hastings.
The Cougars (8-5-5) improved to 2-1-2 in the Grossmont Hills League play, good for second place.
WEST HILLS 2, VALHALLA 1 – The score was tied 1-all at halftime, but Wolf Pack sophomore MALIAH WIRSIG scored the only goal of the second half when she followed up on a loose ball in the box after an initial save.
Wirsig scored on a penalty kick late in the first half to equalize 10 minutes after RAEMI DEWENT scored on a cross from TALLYN BURTON for the visitors.
First-place West Hills improved to 4-0-1 in the Grossmont Hills League.
HELIX 0, SANTANA 0 – In a crucial decision, The Highlanders and Sultans played to a Grossmont Valley League draw in Santee and both teams remained tied atop the table at 4-0-2.
Helix currently had an eight-game unbeaten string, while Santana has a five-game unbeaten streak overall.
The two teams concluded head-to-head play with a pair of ties. The first meeting was 2-2 in La Mesa on Jan. 16.
MONTE VISTA 5, MOUNT MIGUEL 0 – The Monarchs (10-4-1) improved to 3-3 in the GVL with the home victory.
While the league title is starting to disappear in the distance for the Monarchs, they should be a major contender in the section Division 3 playoffs.
EL CAPITAN 9, EL CAJON VALLEY 1 – El Capitan improved to 4-2 in the GVL, currently good for third place.
MOUNTAIN EMPIRE 7, WEST SHORES 0 – The Red Hawks (11-2-2) scored three in the first half and improved to 4-0 in Citrus League play.
OUR LADY OF PEACE 5, CHRISTIAN 2 – The first-place Pilots took a 4-1 lead into halftime in the biggest game of the Eastern League season.
Christian remains in second place in league.
