SPRING VALLEY – The Mount Miguel Matadors are currently the cream of the Grossmont Conference crop as the only district team to receive votes in the latest county media poll, which was released on Monday.
The Matadors are ranked 12th according to the local pundits, which is actually a couple of notches higher than their official computer ranking prior to last Friday’s blowout win over Santana.
Mount Miguel entertained Morse on Monday night, then entertained the home crowd with a 70-40 pasting of their non-league Skyline Drive rival.
Matador DERON TRAYLOR had a game-high 18 points.
Traylor hit a three-pointer with 4:25 left in the first half which gave Mount Miguel a 23-11 lead.
Later in the game, the Matadors turned the contest into a bit of a dunk fest as stars C.J. JACKSON and MARQUISE EDWARDS threw down jams, as Mount Miguel coasted to its 20th victory of the season.
The Matadors (20-4, 4-0 GVL) will host El Capitan (7-13, 0-3 GVL) in a Grossmont Valley League contest on Friday at 7 p.m.
HIGH TECH SAN DIEGO 74, LIBERTY CHARTER 40 – The Lions didn’t fare as well as expected against the slightly-favored Storm.
Liberty fell to 3-4 in the Summit League.
SOUTHWEST (San Diego) 72, MOUNTAIN EMPIRE 26 – Mountain Empire was within 12-11 early, but the Raiders, who are ranked third in SDCIF D5, built a 40-22 lead by halftime.
