SANTANA 58, EL CAJON VALLEY 55 – The Santana Sultans outlasted the El Cajon Valley Braves in a Grossmont Valley league contest in Santee on Tuesday night, improving to 2-0 on the young league season.
ANDREW HITCHCOCK had 21 points and NICK BERHALTER added 13 points as the Sultans improved to 12-0 at home this season.
Although the Sultans appear to be in the fight for a league crown, no slip-ups are allowed against teams they are supposed the defeat. Santana sits precariously inside the SDCIF Division 3 playoff bubble.
The upstart Sultans improved to 2-0 in the GVL (14-8 overall), putting them on pace for a collision showdown with first-place league favorite Mount Miguel (18-4, 3-0 GVL) on Friday at 7 p.m.
El Cajon Valley (10-9, 0-3 GVL) isn’t in action again until next Tuesday when it will host El Capitan (7-11, 0-2 GVL).
GROSSMONT 68, VALHALLA 43 – The Foothillers won on the road for their first Grossmont Hills League win of the season.
Grossmont (10-10, 1-2 GHL) will host first-place Granite Hills (13-5, 3-0 GHL) on Friday at 7 p.m.
Valhalla (5-15, 0-3 GHL) will be at Steele Canyon (7-6, 1-2 GHL) on Friday at 7 p.m., but first will host El Capitan (7-11) in a non-league contest on Wednesday at 5:30.
MOUNTAIN EMPIRE 75, BORREGO SPRINGS 30 – The Red Hawks won their Sunset League opener.
Mountain Empire improved to 7-9 overall and will face San Diego Academy (8-10, 2-1 Sunset) in a league game at home on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
