LA MESA – The Santana High girls varsity soccer team went on the road to face county fifth-ranked Helix and earned a 2-2 draw with the Highlanders in the Grossmont Valley League opener for both teams
Amaya Jones scored her second goal of the game to give Helix a 2-nil advantage.
Santana senior Anicia Reyes scored on a header as the Sultans rallied for the impressive tie.
STEELE CANYON 4, GROSSMONT 2 – Samantha Scarlett, Jalyn Lupo, Elle Hastings and Ashley Herndon scored for Steele Canyon, which won the Hills League opener.
Lupo also had an assist.
ALYSSA WARNER allowed a pair of goals, but came up clutch with six saves.
WEST HILLS 3, VALHALLA 0 – The Wolf Pack won the Hills League opener for both teams.
West Hills led 1-0 at halftime.
MONTE VISTA 8, MOUNT MIGUEL 0 – The Monarchs won the Valley League opener for both teams and sit alone atop the standings after one day.
RIVER VALLEY 8, HEALTH SCIENCES 0 – The Leopards were impressive in the road win and improved to 4-0 in the Frontier-Patriot League.
MOUNTAIN EMPIRE 4, WEST SHORES 0 – The Red Hawks won their Citrus League opener and improved to 8-2-1 on the season.
