GROSSMONT HILLS LEAGUE
GRANITE HILLS 60, VALHALLA 50
EL CAJON – The Granite Hills Eagles opened up league play with a closer contest than one might expect against the Valhalla Norsemen in the Grossmont Hills League opener on Friday evening.
In the first quarter, the Eagles only scored 13 points but in the second quarter were able to get it going offensively as senior guard AUSTIN BALLO would nail a trio of three-pointers as they scored 20 points in the second quarter.
Senior MOSES SMITH added 19 points for the Eagles, including eight in the third quarter.
“Moses had a good game,” Granite Hills coach DAN DUFFY said. “Valhalla played really hard. Our keys were to keep up the intensity and aggressive defense, and executing on offense.”
Sophomore MCKAY ROBERTS connected on a set of threes in the contest for Granite Hills (11-5, 1-0), dropping a trey in the first, second and fourth quarter.
The Eagles travel to face Steele Canyon next Friday night at 7 p.m. for another Grossmont Hills League battle.
Valhalla is scheduled to face El Cajon Valley at the Braves’ gym on Tuesday at 5:30 in an interesting non-league contest.
