SANTANA 0, O’FARRELL CHARTER 0
The home team Sultans had many opportunities in the contest as they dominated time of possession and also field possession as well but couldn’t take advantage of any of their various opportunities that were afforded them in the contest.
One of the first opportunities came early in the contest for the Sultans when an O’Farrell player pulled down a Sultans player in the penalty box but somehow the officials missed the call.
Another opportunity came later in the first half as Omar Nuristani just missed scoring when his shot hit the post. The Sultans in the first half really put the pressure on O’Farrell as they were in their territory for over 20 minutes. Unfortunately, the half would come about without either team scoring.
Things in the second half got really interesting as O’Farrell was able to put some offense together and attacked the Sultans end. However, Santana goalkeeper Tim Caravero was up to the task as he made 11 saves on the evening to help preserve the shutout.
More interesting officiating in the second half as more non-calls occurred but the Sultans had their opportunities but couldn’t convert and had to settle for the nil-nil draw.
On the night the Sultans had 9 shots on goal against O’Farrell with Nuristani accruing 6 of those but all coming up empty. For the first time all season Nuristani was held scoreless in a game.
With his performance in goal, Caravero was named player of the game.
So with the tie, the Sultans record now moves to 8-4-4 and they will open up Grossmont Valley League play on Tuesday, January 16th at 4:30 pm as they host fellow Division III for Valhalla which is currently ranked a spot ahead of Santana at 7th with a 6-1-4 overall record.
