A couple of East County teams rolled up a couple 30-plus-point victories on Tuesday night…
CHRISTIAN 62, HOOVER 30 – Christian High sophomore SIMONE JAMES scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while KRISTEN WILLIAMS added 13 points for the Patriots in the road win over Hoover, as the Pats improved to 2-0 in the Central League.
James scored 12 points in the first half as Christian raced out to a 32-14 halftime lead.
Christian (10-5) led 15-5 after one quarter.
Williams scored seven points in the first half.
Junior ZOE NORDLING scored six points for the Lady Pats, who will host Madison (2-0, 9-2) in a first-round league showdown on Friday at 6 p.m.
STEELE CANYON 64, SAN DIEGO ACADEMY 27 – The road Cougars shutout the Cavaliers in the opening quarter, then came out on fire in the third quarter, really breaking open the game non-league game.
Steele Canyon, which led 12-0 after one, got 15 points in the contests from freshman MAHKAYLAH CLINE, 13 points from senior PAULA BOTT and 11 points from sophomore KHYLAYA BRANDY
Brandy and Bott combined for 14 of the Cougars’ 23 points in the third quarter.
Junior LALA WADLEY added eight points for Steele Canyon (6-4), which will face Francis Parker (6-6) in a tough non-league game on Friday on the road at 5:30 p.m.
HOLTVILLE 57, MOUNTAIN EMPIRE 28 – Juniors MACKENZIE NOLAND and GRECIA CORTEZ both scored eight points for the Red Hawks, which fell to 7-2 overall with the non-league home loss to the Vikings.
After trailing 11-3 after one quarter, the Red Hawks battled to a 26-18 deficit at halftime.
Mountain Empire will be favored when it faces Calvary Christian (5-2) on Wed., Jan. 17 at Spring Valley Rec Center at 3:45 p.m.
MARANATHA CHRISTIAN 78, MONTE VISTA 29 – The Monarchs (3-12) got a tough tune-up game against the Eagles in advance of Friday’s Grossmont Valley League opener at El Cajon Valley.
