EL CAJON (12-28-17) – The Grossmont High ladies took the High Tech Chula Vista Bruins (2-13) on a high-tech lesson in basketball 101, as the Bruins from the South Bay were schooled, 50-14, Thursday night.
To hold any team to 14 points total in a basketball contest is playing some serious defense.
The Lady Hillers (6-4) bounced back huge after a nail-biting loss to Morse, 52-50, before the break, and a terrible loss to Mira Mesa, held to a mere 27 points in a 68-27 beating.
However with the talent they have on hand at this time, the Lady Hillers, as they have all year played as a team to defeat the Bruins from High Tech.
As has been a continuing trend with the Lady Hillers, once again, senior guard CANDACE HENDERSON led the way with
25 points, 4 steals, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds.
It was her third 20-point-plus game of the season.
“Henderson continues to be an offensive threat,” Grossmont head coach GRACE CAMPBELL said. “We use games like these to work out are weaknesses and improve our strengths in preparation for league play.”
Senior forward EMILY BARNES also contributed 13 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 blocks for Grossmont
Foothillers senior Point Guard GRACE CERCADO added 4 points, 5 assists, and 6 steals.
Grossmont was supposed to also play Monarch High School on Thursday, but unfortunately they dropped from the tournament, it was not learned why they did so.
However, The Lady Hillers will take on the Mar Vista Mariners (7-4) for the Gold Crown Tournament, in what should be a very entertaining contest.
