2017 EAST COUNTY PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

SAN DIEGO (12-23-17) -The Grossmont High Lady Foothillers lost their 2nd contest of the season, by a bucket, 52-50, to Morse, on Saturday.
The Lady Foothillers were 1-1 in the Crawford Tournament after they defeated Crawford, 65-30, just last night.
Morse led at the end of the first half, 26-21, as it was a close contest throughout.
Senior CANDACE HENDERSON, of Grossmont, had 37 points (6-of-10 on three-pointers), 3 steals, and was also named aan All-Tournament Player.
Standout performers for Grossmont also included sophomore SARAH HENRY, who had 11 points, 2 steals, and 5
rebounds, and senior, EMILY BARNES, who had 2 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
Senior GRACE CERCADO also added 5 steals.
“Despite not having 2 key players until January 1, we are doing fantastic,” said head coach GRACE CAMPBELL.Grace
The Tigers tried to take away leading scorer Henry by running a box in one zone, which in turn left an opening for leading scorer tonight, Henderson.
“Unfortunately with timely miscues we were unable to pull out the win in the waning seconds,” said Campbell. “However, on another positive note, we have players playing with real confidence in positions they normally wouldn’t play being 2 players down until the 1st.
Morse improved to 7-3.
The Lady Foothillers (5-2) will have 4 days to digest this one and come back strong to take on the Mar Vista Mariners (6-3) on December 27, at 10:30 a.m.
HELIX 74, POINT LOMA 42 – The Helix Highlanders girls varsity basketball team won the Crawford Lady Colts Tournament by shocking the Pointers by handing them their first loss and putting the rest of the county on notice.
Helix defeated Point Loma to win the title by jumping out to an 18-13 lead after one.
Helix would extend the advantage to 38-21 at halftime.
Helix improved to 7-3, while Point Loma fell to 8-1.
Helix next faces Brawley on Wed., in the 35th annual Montgomery Aztec Holiday Classic at noon.
MADISON 38, GRANITE HILLS 37 (2 OT) – At the Crawford Tournament, The Warhawks outlasted the Eagles after rallying to tie the game with a 12-5 fourth quarter edge.
Granite Hills is off until Tues., Jan. 2, when it will face Holtville in the Sweetwater New Year’s Classic at 3 p.m.
MORSE 52, GROSSMONT 50 – Grossmont’s CANDACE HENDERSON scored 37 points, but the Tigers got past the Foothillers.
SARAH HENRY added 11 points for Grossmont, while EMILY BARNES had 10 rebounds.
JAZMINE LEE had five boards for Grossmont.
Grossmont will face Mar Vista in the Gold Crown Tournament on Wed., at 10:30 a.m.
