EL CAPITAN 50, CHULA VISTA 48 – The Vaqueros built a seven-point lead after three quarters, then held off the Spartans for the win.
The Vaqueros led 23-21 at halftime, but the Spartans had a late rush, including a three-pointer to make it a one-point game late.
El Cap picked up its second win of the season behind DRE RAYMOND and his 17 points.
El Capitan faces High Tech San Diego on Saturday. Tip-off will be at 4:30.
FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN 81, CANYON CREST ACADEMY 51 – Foothills Christian (3-3) won the Grossmont Invitational game at Grossmont High School Friday night.
Senior TAESHON CHERRY had 39 points for the Knights, while sophomore YASSINE GHARRAM had 14-points.
After building a 27-13 lead the Knights stumbled in the second quarter. MJ Metz had seven of his team high 17-points in the frame. The surge left the Ravens trailing just 35-30 at the break.
FCHS junior DERRICK CARTER-HOLLINGER finished with 16 points, while junior JAREN NAFARRETE added 10 points.
The Knights travel to meet La Jolla at 7:30 pm on Saturday.
STEELE CANYON 57, UNIVERSITY CITY 48 – The Cougars used a 17-7 push in the third quarter to open up a double-digit lead in a tournament game at La Jolla High and win their season opener.
The Cougars face Olympian (5-1) tonight on the road at 7:30 in a tournament game.
GROSSMONT 59, KEARNY 45 – The Foothillers won the home tournament game and improved to 2-5 against the 1-5
Grossmont will face La Jolla Country Day (5-1) at 7:30 tonight at Grossmont High.
EL CAJON VALLEY 64, CLAIREMONT 61 – The Braves improved to 4-3 and will play Tri-City Christian (3-2) in a tournament game at Santana High at 6 p.m.
CARLSBAD 68, MOUNT MIGUEL 62 – The previously unbeaten Matadors looked sharp early, opening up a 24-10 lead after one, but the Lancers controlled the rest of the game and rallied for the win in a Grossmont Winter Classic game at Santana High.
The Matadors (5-1) will face Hilltop (0-5) in the Grossmont Winter Classic game at Grossmont High today at 4:30.
DEL LAGO ACADEMY 57, MOUNTAIN EMPIRE 48 – The Red Hawks lost at home.
