EastCountySports.com staff report
SPRING VALLEY – The undefeated Mount Miguel Matadors nearly doubled up on the visiting Valhalla Norsemen in a Baron/Matador Classic game in Spring Valley Thursday night, throttling their guests, 90-47.
Now, Mount Miguel will be shooting for its sixth-straight to open the season, but they’ll have to do it against their tournament rivals Bonita Vista, which is also undefeated at 5-0.
Still, the Barons are likely expected to be a considerable favorite when the undefeated tournament hosts square off on Saturday night at 7 at the Matadors’ gym.
Mount Miguel has played a tougher schedule, however, and joins Bonita Vista as two of the top three teams in Division 3 this season, making this a possible late-postseason matchup preview.
Another East County D3 entry joins these two in the top of the rankings early on, as Santana looks to be a top contender, as well.
VICTORY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 43, EL CAJON VALLEY 42 – The Braves lost a one-pointer at home to the Knights, of Chula Vista, knocking El Cajon Valley to 1-3 so far.
The Braves will face a winless San Pasqual team tonight at 7 p.m. in a Santana Shootout game that will be played at Grossmont High.
