PALM DESERT – The 13th-ranked Grossmont College Griffins men’s basketball team won for the second consecutive day and captured the consolation championship at the Frank Garcia College of the Desert Tip-Off Classic with an 83-64 victory over Glendale (Ariz.) Saturday afternoon at Roadrunner Gym.
RONALD BLAIN and DAVID WHEELER combined for 41 points on an impressive 15-for-22 from the field and 7-of-8 from three, while OSCAR LIMON had 12 points, six assists and six steals in the game, as Grossmont led 43-32 at halftime.
The Griffins shot nearly 56 percent from the field and made 9-of-18 three-pointers.
Blain had eight rebounds, while Wheeler handed out seven assists.
Grossmont (2-1) trailed by five very early, but Limon and BRYCE PARSONS (14 points) led a surge that put Grossmont into the lead for good just a few minutes into the game.
Parsons, a sophomore out of West Hills, was named to the seven-man All-Tournament team.
He averaged 18 points, four rebounds and 3.7 assists over the three tournament games.

SAN DIEGO – Cuyamaca battled early, trailing San Diego Mesa by just three at halftime, but the Olympians pulled away to send the Coyotes to their second loss in as many starts, 85-73, at the Knights Invitational Tournament Saturday afternoon.
ABE ALI had 18 points, while SAIYEED MERSHON added 14 of 16 points in the first half for Cuyamaca, which committed 21 turnovers. Both players grabbed eight boards, respectively.
