Red Hawks get 2nd-straight shutout

PINE VALLEY – The Mountain Empire Red Hawks defense is on a roll with two-straight shutouts after a 24-0 win over Orange Glen here Friday night.

Mountain Empire’s GABRIEL HYDORN passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, while teammate DALLAS PRINCE intercepted a pass for the third-straight game and caught one of the throwing scores as the Red Hawks won their final home game of the season.

Hydorn was 8-of-10 passing for 103 yards, while also rushed nine times for 37 yards.

BLAKE JARRELL led the Empire rushing attack with 67 yards on 12 carries, while WYATT MANN had a team-leading five receptions for 60 yards.

RYAN SAWYER, a junior, had the other TD reception, from 7 yards. That gave the Red Hawks a 14-0 first quarter lead.

Prince also had 38 yards rushing on five carries. On his interception, he returned the ball 36 yards. He added six tackles, as well.

Prince scored the game’s first touchdown on an 8-yard reception from Hydorn.

Jarrell led the shutout for the Red Hawks with 15 tackles and a fumble recovery, while JONATHAN PENUELAS added 10 tackles.

CAMERON WILL had another big night with the defense, with 10 tackles, including two for loss, a forced fumble and an interception.

The Red Hawks defense also got contributions from juniors CHARLIE SALLEE and ANTONIO ARCE, who both had a sack.

Solid Red Hawk kicker WYATT AGUILAR had a 30-yard field goal to extend the lead to 17-0.

In the fourth quarter, Hydorn had an 8-yard TD run.

Mountain Empire (5-4) faces Vincent Memorial with a shot at a tie for the Manzanita League championship.

Vincent Memorial is the county’s top-ranked team in Division 5.
