EastCountySports.com staff report
SCRIPPS RANCH – Christian High junior fullback JAVIER JIMENEZ scored three rushing touchdowns to lead the Christian Patriots to a defeat of Scripps Ranch, 61-19, in an Eastern League game here on Friday night.
The Patriots’ high-powered offense was back in gear against the struggling Falcons, as Christian put itself in position to secure a CIE Division 1 first-round home game if it can upset Point Loma next Friday night.
And the defense was able to bring the heat on this evening against Scripps by dominating after the first quarter.
The Patriots’ NASHOM CARTER scored on a 12-yard touchdown run to make it 7-3 after Scripps Rancho scored first with a field goal.
Jimenez, a running back, scored on a 12-yard run for a Patriots’ 14-3 advantage.
In the second quarter, Scripps Ranch (1-8, 0-3 Eastern) cut the lead to 14-10, but BRYCE RIEPL scored on a 53-yard touchdown reception from BRAD JEREMIAH to re-extend the Pats’ cushion.
Christian (7-2, 3-1 Eastern) led 34-13 at halftime after Riepl scored on a long touchdown reception on a double pass late in the first half.
Jeremiah was nearly perfect at passing, going 14-for-15 with 250 yards and three touchdowns.
Riepl caught two of the TDs.
The Patriots’ JESSE MATTHEWS and ALEXANDER GONZALEZ forced a fumble in the second half, which was recovered by junior middle linebacker NATHAN MATTAZARO.
The Patriots got a 58-yard touchdown pass in the second half from Jeremiah to Matthews to make it 41-13.
A few minutes later, ALONZO RICHARDSON came home with a 12-yard score from Jeremiah to make it 48-13.
Jimenez added a 4-yard score with 2:14 left in the third to make it 55-13.
Then, Jimenez turned in a 50-yard TD run to make it 61-13 at the end of the third quarter.
He added a sack for good measure, as well, in the second half.
Christian junior defensive end EFSTATHIOS SHENAS had a sack in the second half.
Next week’s Christian High Patriots home game has been moved to El Cajon Valley High since Granite Hills will be playing at home and all teams need to finish on Friday night because the CIF seeding meeting is Saturday morning.
Christian could still share the Eastern League title should Morse upset Lincoln next Friday.
