More, more, more, Moala scores four

EL CAJON – Grossmont High senior JOSH MOALA scored four touchdowns, including three in the second quarter, as the Foothillers rolled visiting Southern Section opponent Buena Park, 56-17, Friday night.

Grossmont (3-2) fell behind by a touchdown on a miraculous throw from quarterback Jordan Simpson to Elijah Allen in between three Hiller defenders on the back end line to lead 7-0 at the end of one.

But sophomore JAMIE ODOM soon found a rhythm with Moala, who hauled in a 25-yard pass to tie the game with 10:54 left in the second quarter.

The pair hooked up again for the lead on a 34-yard touchdown.

Buena Park (1-3) kicked a field goal with three minutes left in the first half to close it to within 14-10.

Grossmont intercepted two passes in the first half and the Foothillers scored two touchdowns in a span of just 20 seconds in the final minute of the first half.

SHEVELL STERLING, JR. had a 2-yard touchdown run with 42 seconds left before intermission. Sterling had a strong night on the ground.

Moala scored his third touchdown of the half from Odom with 22 seconds before halftime.

In the third quarter, Grossmont senior ANDREW LIRA turned in a 68-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Moala’s fourth score of the game came in the third quarter when he easily got behind the retired defense for a 39-yard score with 1:54 left in the period.

Grossmont senior QB DYLAN SMITH added a 2-yard keeper for a score in the third quarter. That put Grossmont up 56-10 with 9:37 to play in the game.

Grossmont kicker Amber Huff was eight-for-eight on PATs for the evening.

Grossmont travels to play El Capitan next Friday night.

Touchdown-makers Moala and Mooney were part of the Mutual Admiration Society on Twitter Friday night.
