EastCountySports.com staff report

EL CAJON – The Sweetwater Red Devils didn’t necessarily have a secret weapon for Friday night’s non-league encounter against El Cajon Valley Braves.

But they did have Marty Sesma, who made his season debut after being sidelined all season with an injury to his left hand, and scored five touchdowns to help down the hosts on Homecoming night.

El Cajon Valley’s DARELL DAVIS had an 86-yard kick off return for a touchdown to erase a Sweetwater score in the second quarter, cutting a two-score lead in half, but the previously winless Red Devils continued on for a 46-7 victory.

Davis picked up the bounding ball and started left, then shoved teammate BRANDON ROBINSON into the path of a couple of pursuing Red Devils. He then took off for the right side, getting help from blockers RONALD HULLUM, DWIGHT BREWER and JONATHAN ISLAS, to get all the way to the end zone as the Braves found themselves back in the game.

Sweetwater (1-3) got a touchdown from Richard Malixi on a 16-yard run to finish off the game’s opening drive to cap the first drive of the game.

Shane Burris and Carlos Alvarez had interceptions in the first quarter the Red Devils.

On the first play of the second quarter, Sesma scored from two yards out to make it 13-0.

Sweetwater kicked two field goals in the second quarter.

Sesma added a touchdown run of 14 yards to make it 32-7 at halftime.

Sweetwater’s Robert Hewett had one of the Red Devils’ two second-half interceptions.

Sesma added touchdown runs of two and seven yards in the second half.

El Cajon Valley fell to 1-4 and are next in action on Oct. 6 at home against Chula Vista.
