Grossmont 10, No. 4 Patrick Henry 5 – The bats come alive for the Foothillers to garner the big upset on the road.
The Foothillers got on the board first in the top of the first thanks to a KATIE APPENZELLER (1-2, R) single and would come around to score when ALEXIS COLLINS (2-4, R, RBI, 3B) roped a ball that went for a triple to make it 1-0.
The Patriots went to business in the bottom of the second as trailing by a run wasn’t impossible. Leadoff hitter LAILA SPRACKLEN (2-4, R, RBI) singled, a couple of batters later ARIANA RIOS (1-2, R) singled, HANNAH MCEWEN (4-4, R, RBI, 2 2B) doubled in Spracklen and CASSIE VAN TIL (RBI) knocked in Rios to make it 2-1.
Grossmont retook the lead in the top of the third as MOANA PISIA (1-4, R) walked and a couple batters later TAYLOR BAEZ (1-4, R, 2 RBI, HR) got a hold one and clubbed a 2-run homer to give the Hillers a 3-2 lead.
Patrick Henry in the bottom of the third was able to push across the tying run as LAUREN NETT (3-4, 2R, 2B, SB) led off with a single, stole second and scored when Spracklen singled which made it 3-3.
However the tie didn’t last as Grossmont in the top of the fourth were able to take advantage of miscues by the Patriots which brought up the top of the Hiller lineup and CHLOE CAMARERO (2-5, R, 4 RBI, HR) who on a 2-1 count took the offering and hammered a grand slam shot to give Grossmont the 7-3 lead.
The Patriots cut into the lead in the bottom of the fourth as McEwen singled and would score on a CRISTIONA CACCAMISE (1-4, RBI) single to make it 7-4.
However Grossmont in the top of the fifth added another run when JORDAN BROWN (1-1, R, RBI) walked and would come into score on a JESSICA WILSON (R, RBI) sacrifice fly to make it 8-4. They rounded out their scoring with two more runs to extend their lead 10-4 in the top of the sixth as MOANA PISIA (1-4, R) and Collins singled, CANDACE HENDERSON (1-1, R, RBI) knocked in Brown and DESTINY BACON (2-3, R, RBI, SB) knocked in Wilson.
Henry would add their final run in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a double by Nett and another double by H. JENKS (1-3, RBI, 2B).
CASSIDY DAVILA started the contest for the Hillers, she tossed 3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits.
SAMARIA ROOPE would garner the victory as she came in and tossed 4 innings in relief giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, striking out 4.
Taking the loss for the Patriots was Spracklen who went 3 innings giving up 7 runs on 4 hits, walked 3 and struck out 3.
No. 10 Granite Hills 10, No. 16 High Tech SD 0 – The Eagles show who is boss in a battle of top 20 teams in San Diego with both offense and pitching.
Granite Hills fired the first shot in the bottom of the first inning as HALLE KYLER (3-4, 3R, 2 RBI, 2B, HR) blasted a shot over the center field fence for the 1-0 lead.
CATIE DOBBS had the honor of taking the circle for the Eagles and trying to shut down the high scoring offense of High Tech. That she did in the top of the second as she retired them order 1-2-3.
The Eagles had an opportunity to push their lead in the bottom of the second as BRIELLE TYSELING (3-4, R, 2B) led off with a double but she unfortunately would be stranded.
However in the bottom of the fourth the Eagles pushed their lead as Kyler singled to lead off, KAYLA MACK (2-3, 2R, 2 RBI, HR) followed with a single, HALEY JOHNSON (2-4, R, RBI) sends a ball to right field that went for a double that scored Kyler and Mack advanced to third, BAILY WALLACE (1-2, R, RBI) laid down the perfect bunt that scored Mack to make it 3-0, CASSIDY SHEW (1-4, RBI) followed with a single that scored Johnson to make it 4-0 and Wallace advanced to third.
Dobbs would get into a little trouble in the top of the fourth when with 2 outs she walked back to back batters but she got out of it when retired the next batter on a popup.
The Eagles soared to more in the bottom of the fifth as KAREN CREECH (R, SB) with one out walked, she stole second, Kyler roped a ball to center that went for a double that scored Creech to make it 5-0. The next batter Mack looked to do more and did as she took the 2-1 offering and crushed it over the center field fence for the 2-run bomb to make it 7-0.
High Tech SD finally broke through in the hit column when the leadoff batter doubled but she would be stranded.
For the Eagles in the bottom of the fifth they would add another run as Tyseling led off with a single, a couple of batters later STACI CHAMBERS laced a single to put runners at first and second, SYDNEY HUSE (1-1, 2 RBI) would go on to knock both In on a single to make it 9-0.
Granite Hills rounded out their scoring and ended the game when Chambers in the bottom of the sixth singled in Wallace who had been hit by a pitch to make it 10-0.
Dobbs in the victory only allowed the 1 hit in 5 innings, walked 3 and fanned 3. Chambers tossed 1 inning in which she fanned 2.
