2017 PREP BASEBALL – LIONS TOURNAMENT

Monday’s non-East County games:

CLASSIC DIVISION

Agoura 5, Cathedral Catholic 2 – Nick Nastrini had an RBI single in the sixth for the Dons, but Agoura scored two runs in each of the first two innings.

Bishop Gorman 5, Elk Grove 3 – At Granite Hills, juniors Austin Wells and Ryan Sepede homered for the Gaels. Wells then drove in a run in Gorman’s two-run sixth, which snapped a 3-all tie.

Madison 2, Rancho Bernardo 0 – Oregon State-bound Kevin Abel delivered the shutout for the host Warhawks, posting a four-hitter with five strikeouts over the top-ranked team in the county. Junior Devin Padua doubled, stole a base and scored.

Newbury Park 10, El Camino Woodland Hills 0 – Braden Ashmore pitched a no-hitter, striking out five, whiel Shay Whitcomb had two RBI for Newbury Park.

 

PREMIER DIVISION

Montgomery 2, Santa Monica 1 – At Montgomery, Reyes Murillo drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning to snap a 1-all tie. Jorge Martinez got the win, striking out eight over six innings, while Iran Torres earned the save.

Vista 12, Liberty 2 – At Vista, senior Frankie Scalso had three hits and drove in the runs, while senior teammate Ian Hodges had two hits, two runs and two RBI.

San Marcos 8, Desert Oasis 5 – At San Marcos, Tyler Holmes got the win and Zack Prajzner came on for the save. Prajzner also drove in a pair of runs, as did teammates Vincent Martinez and Andrew Crane.

Santa Ana Foothill 9, St. Augustine 2 – At Hickman Field, senior Cameron Tafoya drove in three runs, while senior Camden Cougnet and sophomore Kyle Ashworth drove in two apiece for the Knights. Ryan Taurek struck out six over five innings for Foothill.

Francis Parker 4, Carlsbad 0 – At Parker, Evan Stewart was the winning pitcher, delivering five scoreless innings. Junior Ben Kronegard had two hits and drove in a run.

Poway 7, Scripps Ranch 3 – Senior Kevin Van Linge had three hits and drove in three for the host Titans. Dylan Weese got the win.

La Jolla Country Day 4, Silverado 1 – Josh Howe homered for the Torreys, while AJ Dhus got the win with a complete-game effort, striking out eight and allowing four hits. Ben Petty-Hull had two RBI.

 

DIVISION 6A

Westview 3, Calabasas 2 – Andrew Rueter went five innings for the win, while Chris Fousek recorded five outs for the save. Kevin Lyons drove in a pair for the Wolverines.

Patrick Henry 4, Crespi 1 – Josh Pompa got the win, going five innings, allowing an unearned run, while junior Noah Bettencourt drove in a pair for the Patriots.

Bonita Vista 6, Mission Hills 3 – at LJCD, Sophomore Omar Vega had four hits and four RBI, while Alex Verdugo got the win, going four innings and striking out five with no walks.

Point Loma 16, La Jolla 1 – The visiting Pointers got three RBI each from sophomore Anthony Hall, junior Joshua Ball and junior Justin DaLuz. Santiago Gomez went for innings for the win, striking out three.

Rocklin 8, Otay Ranch 7 – At Westview High, senior Keith Walker drove in two for the Thunder, while junior teammate Cole Anderson had two hits and scored three runs.

El Camino 2, Santa Fe Christian 1 – The Wildcats scored two in the third and the runs held up as Braden Olthoff went six innings to earn the win. Trevor Frolander earned the save. Matthias Tirona drove in a run with a single for the Wildcats.

 

DIVISION 5A

Ramona 17, Vista Grande (Ariz.) 3 – The Bulldogs led 7-0 after 2, scored six more in the fourth.

Escondido 4, Rancho Buena Vista 1 – Senior Jake Moskowitz got the win for the Cougars.

Woodland Hills Taft 2, University City 0 – Taft got two in the fourth.

Mira Mesa 6, McClatchy 2 – Senior Michael Bovee, Jr. had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in two runs, while senior teammate Jake Ambrose also had two RBI.

Del Norte 11, Foothill (Nev.) 8

South Torrance 9, Ridgeview 0

 

DIVISION 4A

St. Paul’s 6, Nevada Union 2 – Julian Tellez drove in three runs on a pair of doubles.

Oxnard 8, Mater Dei 4 – Robert Pizano had two doubles and drove in three for Oxnard.

Mission Bay 4, Central 0 – Dylan Kasper got the victory, while Joey Witkowski had three hits for the Bucs.

Canyon Crest 3, San Diego 2 – Senior Sam Hreha doubled and had an RBI for Canyon Crest. Senior Nico de Boucaud got the win, while Hugo Kenebuchi came on for a two-inning save.

Oceanside 10, Fallbrook 0

Sage Creek 1, LA Polytech Sun Valley 0

Sweetwater 5, Calexico 4

 

DIVISION 3A

San Pasqual 8, Mt. Carmel 3 – Seniors Dylan Jacob and Spencer Pugh led San Pasqual with two RBI each. Junior Jake Madison got the win.

Del Oro 7, Chula Vista 1 – Cade Davenport got the win, while junior Cody Oldwin had a double and 2 RBI for Del Oro. Junior Jakob Frederick had two hits, while senior Richard Meyers had a double and two RBI for Del Oro.

Madera South 3, Bishop’s 1 – Senior Jiovanni Saavedra earned the win with 4 2/3 innings, while Brandon Goethe pitched the remainder for the save.

Roosevelt 10, Olympian 9 – Olympian’s Ian Spillane had a triple and four RBI, while Roosevelt’s Salvatore Zepeda drove in three.

Mar Vista 11, South Gate 1 – Alejandro Hinojosa was the winning pitcher, while Mar Vista’s Zachary Burns went 3-for-3, including a triple, while sophomore Zack Hastings had two hits, including a double and 2 RBI.

Mission Vista 12, Menlo 2 – Senior Christian Davis had four hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Senior Reggie Nieblas got the win with five innings of work.

Serra 1, San Dieguito Academy 0 – Sophomore Desmond Szalapski got the win, while senior Tate Samuelson picked up the save. Junior Nick Liong had two hits and scored the game’s only run.

Hilltop 5, Valley Center 4

 

DIVISION 2A

Placer 11, Hoover 0 – Chandler Dakin struck out 11 and allowed one hit over 5 2/3 innings for the win, while Sterling Spurling and Austin Silve both drove in three runs for the Hillmen

Maranatha 13, SD High Tech 2 – Senior Zachary Bridger drove in a pair of runs and scored three times for Maranatha Christian.

Whittier Christian 19, Calvin Christian 0 – Collin Kociela drove in three runs, while teammate Adrian Monney pitched three no-hit innings, striking out five.

Classical Academy 9, North Hollywood 0 – Jake Mizel got the win for CA, while senior Jordan Peterson had two hits, inlcuding a triple, and 3 RBI.

Horizon Christian Academy 18, Palo Verde Valley 10 – Joey Dowdy went 2-for-2, had a RBI, scored four runs and earned the win. Chris Glevy, of HCA, had a hit, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI, while teammate Matt Simpson was 2-for-3, scoring 3 runs and hitting 2 RBI. JP Dolan, of HCA, went 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored and a RBI.

 

 

DIVISION 1A

Orange Glen 4, Sunrise Mountain (Nev.) 2 – Jesse Cardenas had two RBI in the second inning and finished with three hits for the Patriots. Memo Ibarra went the distance for the win, striking out six and walking one, delivering a four-hitter.

Holtville 2, Calipatria 1 – Octavio Loya got the win, while sophomore Valentino Burfield went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Morse 13, Mountain Empire 3 – Junior Niko Ortega drove in three runs for the Tigers with three hits, including a double and a triple.

SD Southwest 4, Lincoln 3 – The Raiders’ Dominic Escobar, a sophomore, went 2-for-3 with a walk, while senior Edgar Jacome drove in two

Linfield Christian 2, Tri-City Christian 1 – Linfield scored two in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead.

Alpha Charter 5, Kearny 2 – Sophomore Ronnie Belton got the win and drove in a pair of runs, while teammate Josiah Taylor had a hit and scored a run.

Capital Christian 9, Castle Park 4 – Sophomore Xavier Carter drove in three runs for Capital Christian.

Rancho Christian 13, High Tech CV 3 – Rancho junior Carter Treadway had three RBI. Kai Saterstrom had an RBI for the Bruins.

 

 

DIVISION 1A PLUS

Escondido Charter 4, Valley Academy 2 – Senior Tony Leishman drove in a pair for Escondido Charter. Senior Thomas Brunette got the win, going six innings and allowing just two unearned runs.

American Christian 8, Army-Navy 0
