2017 EAST COUNTY PREP BASEBALL

CHULA VISTA – Last season, the Monte Vista Monarchs won just seven of their first 10 games.
On Wednesday, the Monarchs won their seventh game of the 2017 season against just three losses, after defeating Olympian, 8-4, in a City/East/Metro Tournament game.
Monte Vista will play at Chula Vista on Saturday in a tournament finale at 10:30 a.m.
The Monarchs put up a six-spot in the fourth inning, highlighted by hits from DAVID GARCIA, DIEGO SANDOVAL and IVAN PLAZOLA.
Garcia, a senior, tripled in the big inning for three RBI. He also doubled and scored a pair of runs.
Senior JUSTIN SCHWEIZER got the win, delivering a complete game with seven strikeouts and no walks.
EL CAJON VALLEY 14, KING-CHAVEZ COMMUNITY 0 (5 inn.) – The El Cajon Valley Braves might be a little behind the rest of the county in terms of preparation, having played just a handful of games so far this season.
But the Braves put up a week’s worth of runs in just one inning Wednesday afternoon against King-Chavez Community.
El Cajon Valley scored 12 runs in the first in support of support of sophomore starter ROBERT VERDUGO, who went four innings, striking out 11.
Sophomore SEBASTIAN SANCHEZ homered drove in three runs and junior JUAN MICHEL added a pair of RBI for the Braves.
Sanchez also double and finished three hits in the contest and also scored three runs.
Senior HECTOR CARREON also hit a home run for El Cajon Valley (2-4)
El Cajon senior leadoff man ANTHONY MORENO scored three runs without the benefit of a base hit.
