RANCHO SAN DIEGO (3-15-17) – A wild finish allowed the Valhalla Norsemen to claim the 5-4 over The Bishop’s Knights in Jaguar Classic action on Wednesday.
Early on the Knights led as they pushed across a couple of runs in the top of the first inning to lead 2-0.
Valhalla however answered in the bottom of the first inning as RACHEL SHELLSTROM (1-3, RBI, 3 SB, 2 R) reached on a fielder’s choice, KENNEDY LABSHERE (1-3, 2 SB, R) followed with a base hit, Shellstrom advanced to third and Labshere stole second, KELLY OLSON walked to load the bases and ALEXIS INGRASSIA (RBI) drew a four-pitch walk allowing Shellstrom to walk in and make it 2-1.
Valhalla would do some damage in the bottom of the second as they were able to take advantage of some opportunities. Leadoff hitter RYLEE MCMILLAN hit the ball to third but an error by the third baseman allowed her to reach, now at the top of the lineup stepping to the plate JADE HILL (1-3, 3B, RBI, R) smashed a triple scoring McMillan, Shellstrom followed with a single scoring Hill, Shellstrom would come into score on a passed ball to make the score 4-2 in favor of Valhalla.

Bishop’s, however, wouldn’t go down without a fight as their bats came alive in the top of the third as they were able to score a couple of runs to tie the game at 4-4.
Both teams matched each other in the fourth but Valhalla would strike a great blow in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Leading for the Norsemen, Labshere was able to reach on an error by the right fielder and come in to score as an attempted suicide squeeze was tried but was pulled back and the ball got by the catcher allowing Labshere to score on the steal to retake the lead for good 5-4.
Garnering the victory for Valhalla was LILY METSCH who came in the game as a reliever, she tossed 3 innings giving up 0 hits. TORI BASSETTE started, she tossed 4 innings giving up 3 hits and struck out 3 on the day.
PATRICK HENRY 11, HIGH TECH SD 3 – The Patriots scored 4 runs in the first couple of innings and never looked back as they eased their way to victory in a non-league contest.
Returning to the lineup after missing a couple of games was the lightning rod of the Patriots offense, HANNAH MCEWEN (3-3, RBI, 3 R, 2B, HR, SB) and she didn’t disappoint in her return. Right away her presence was felt as she led off the bottom of the first with a single, stole second base, moved to third on a wild pitch, CASSIE VAN TIL (1-2, R, SB) walked, stole second, next batter

The next batter ANDREA WRIGHT (1-2, 2 R) walked and MADISON JAMES (2-4, RBI, R) singled which scored Van Til to make it 2-0. SAVANNAH CHAPMAN (R, RBI) would knock in Wright to extend the lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the second, ARIANA RIOS (1-3, R, SB) led off with a single, stole second and came into score when Caccamise again hit a fly ball this time to center field which allowed Rios to score and give Henry a 4-0 lead.
High Tech would finally break through and get on the board in the top of the fourth with a run to make the score 4-1. However, the Patriots answered in the bottom of the inning on a solo blast by McEwen to extend the lead 5-1.
Patrick Henry would round out their scoring with 5 runs over the fifth and sixth innings. LAILA SPRACKLEN who came into pitch also helped her cause as she went 2-3 with a double and driving in 3 runs and scoring a run. Another big bat on the day was LAUREN NETT who drove in 2 runs.
Tossing the victory for the Patriots, freshman pitcher HAILEY JENKS getting her first career varsity victory as she went 5 innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits, walked 2 and struck out 2. Spracklen tossed 2 innings of 3 hit ball, gave up 2 runs and struck out 2 on the day.

RANCHO BUENA VISTA 3, GRANITE HILLS 2 – A tight back and forth affair between the visiting Eagles and Longhorns went the way of RBV as they rallied late to claim the Jaguar Classic contest.
The Eagles clawed in front first as HALLE KYLER (1-3, RBI, R, SB) roped a single to right field, stole second base and came into score on a single by KAYLA MACK (1-2, RBI) to lead 1-0 early on.
Rancho Buena Vista answered back in the bottom of the inning as they took advantage of an error to tie the score 1-1.
Granite Hills in the top of the third pushed across a run to retake the lead thanks to a RYLEE OMAHEN (1-2, R) leadoff single, she would advance to third on a single by KAREN CREECH (1-3) and scored on a groundout by Kyler to make the score 2-1.
Unfortunately, the lead didn’t last for the Eagles as the Longhorns scored the tying run in the bottom of the fourth on another mistake by the Eagles.
With the score tied up at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth, the Longhorns started off with back-to-back singles and what ended up being the game-winning run would score on another error by Granite Hills.
Kyler took the circle and tossed 4 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 4. STACI CHAMBERS pitched 2 innings giving up the 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 1.
