ADELANTO — The El Cajon Valley Braves rode the party bus home Tuesday night following their 2-1 road victory over the Adelanto Saints in the CIF Division 5 Southern California Regionals.
The Braves scored 18 minutes into the contest.
WAHIB AWAREK scored after a free kick by LIYON KALYANA.
However, Adelanto, champions of the Desert Sky League, would rally to tie the game just a few minutes later.
El Cajon Valley scored what proved to be the decisive goal around the 25-minute mark.
MATIOS MURAD tapped home a cross to give the Braves their 2-1 lead.
The Braves looked to be the more fit side during a defensive exercise in the second half despite the Saints carrying much of the play in the second half
The Braves carried the play for much of the first half, but Adelanto (10-6-7) had better chances in the second half.
El Cajon Valley was able to shut down Adelanto’s respected wing game thanks to their superior size, which enabled the Braves to keep Adelanto’s top scorer off the board.
Sixth-seeded El Cajon Valley (20-6-1) scored the upset of No. 3 Adelanto after they won the CIF San Diego Section Division V title last Friday.
Now El Cajon Valley has advanced to Thursday’s 4 p.m. regional semifinal against L.A. Smidt Tech, which defeated Victor Valley on penalty kicks after the teams tied 0-0.
