FULLERTON (2-21-17) — An early pitcher’s duel turned into a blowout loss, as the San Diego Christian Hawks dropped the first game of a doubleheader to Hope International University on Monday by surrendering 10 runs in the middle frames.
The Hawks lost the contest to the Royals 10-2.
San Diego Christian avoided the shutout as ZACHARY AMBROSE walked and scored on a walk to TYLER SCHINDEL.
BRAD MOSIER singled down the left field line to score BROOKS FAGES.
All the Hawks’ scoring came in the seventh inning.
The Royals took full advantage of playing in their home park as they defeated the Hawks 4-1 in Game 2.With the losses, SDC falls to 3-7 on the year and 2-4 in GSAC play. The Royals improved to 7-2 on the season and 5-1 in conference.

MARK YOUNG was the starter for the Hawks in Game 1. He lasted six innings allowing three hits, two runs with seven strikeouts in the loss.
In Game 2, the Royals picked up right where they left off with a 2-run homer in the second and a solo homer in the third.
STEVEN PICO doubled in the fifth to score JUSTIN HAWKINS in the Hawks’ only run of the game.
Four different batters collected hits in the nightcap.
CALEB RODUSKY was a bit of a bright spot, as he pitched a complete game in the loss allowing six hits and four runs with eight strikeouts.
SDC will be back on the diamond Friday as they head to Vanguard.
Meanwhile, the first GSAC Pitcher of the Week award of the year was given to the Hawks’ JERRY QUEMADA, who earned the award released by the conference on Monday.
Quemada picked up the win for the Hawks last Friday as SDC defeated the Royals 10-5. Quemada tossed six innings allowing six hits with four earned runs while striking out four in the win.
The win evened SDC’s record in conference play at the time at 2-2.
